KMA all day… literally! Even though summer is just shy of three weeks away, the sun’s been shining and the summer festivities have already begun. The first on the KMA’s list for dog-day events is the annual 24-hour relay.
Keeping up with the philanthropist spirit, the KMA will be joining numerous teams from all around B.C. by raising donations for children with disabilities, which allows them to attend the Easter Seals Camp.
What is an Easter Seals Camp?
The Easter Seals camp allows children with disabilities to develop their abilities and skills in a friendly environment. These camps encourage the children to develop new friendships, confidence, skills and independence. It also helps subsidize the family’s costs towards sending their children to camp.
Each camp is specifically designed and equipped to accommodate children with special needs such as ramps, lifts, modification to doorways and hallways, and specialized sporting equipment. It also allows for the camp to have a low ratio of counselors to campers, allowing much more attention to their campers and providing the assistance required.
The Relay
The Easter Seals Relay is held at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby B.C. on June 14 at 10:00 A.M until June 15th, 10:00 A.M. It consists of a 4 km course that is supported with aid stations along with being patrolled by security and lit at night.
Rain or shine each team must have one member running, walking or crawling throughout the 24 hours.
