Program Assistant, Senior Community Support Services
Job Summary
Working closely with the Manager and Program Coordinators of Seniors Community Support Services
(SCSS), provides daily administrative and clerical support for Programs and services within the portfolio
of SCSS. Participate and assist with agency events, such as: our volunteer appreciation events, Annual General
Meeting, Seniors Wellness and More (WHAM), community events, and other community related events.
Summary of essential job functions
- Assists with volunteer recruitment and screening for the various programs in SCSS
- Performs various duties regarding the management of volunteer programs including the shopping, transportation, friendly visiting, light housekeeping, and community action ambassadors ’ programs
- Provides support and leadership to volunteers
- Participates in volunteer orientation, and training
- Assists with client interviews
- Assists with arranging driving and housekeeping appointments for clients
- Assists with data entry into volunteer and client databases
- Provides administrative support for workshops, special events and other duties as required
- Provides on-site support for the Shop-by-Phone and/or Group Shopping program at local grocery
stores - Participates and assists in agency events
Minimum education and experience requirements
- Must have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year, with the intention of returning to post-secondary education on a full-time basis in the next academic year
- Prior administrative experience required
Skills and abilities required
- Proficient computer skills (applicant may have to take a computer proficiency test)
- MicrosoftOffice – Access, Excel, Outlook, Word
- Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, or other design programs is an asset
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team
- Detail oriented, and organized
- Good communication (verbal and written) and excellent interpersonal skills
- Customer Service and/or Information & Referral Experience preferred
- Additional language an asset
Certificates, Licenses, Membership requirements
- First Aid Certificate preferred

- Must successfully complete a Criminal Record Check.

Time Commitment:
- 35 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks to a maximum of 16 weeks
- Must be able to work flexible hours, evening and weekends in order to support program activities or events
- Position to commence May 8, 2017, subject to approval of funding
- Position end date between July 31- August 11, 2017
Summer Student Requirements
- Has been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year, and intendsto return to
school on a full-time basis in the next academic year - Be a Canadian citizen, permanent residents, or has official refugee protection status under the
Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to
relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Pay rate: $15.00/hour.
